Congress has just two joint legislative days scheduled for February, but somewhat surprisingly last week the House passed a bipartisan tax bill which then went to the Senate for consideration. In less than a month, there could be a government shutdown unless Congress and the Administration can come together. There are some legislators who would like to pass one huge “omnibus” bill that would eliminate the frequent shutdown showdowns, but others who say no way.
Michael Kaiser, WineAmerica’s Executive Vice President and Director of Government Affairs, is totally plugged into Capitol Hill actions, and reports on them in a weekly e-newsletter every Monday that is available to WineAmerica members only. To join and stay up to date, go here.
Vital Associations
Not-for-profit associations are vital to the American and international wine industry, supplementing the grape and wine producers, wholesalers, retailers and others who depend on reliable communication and representation.
WineAmerica is just one example, and a close collaborator with Wine Institute, Wine Market Council, Women for WineSense, the National Grape Research Alliance, FIVS (international), and others. In addition, our State and Regional Associations Advisory Council (SRAAC), with some 40 groups from 25 states, is a key asset for national grassroots public policy advocacy.
To help us all get better acquainted, each week a different national or international association will be briefly introduced here, with a link to their websites for more detailed information about their history, mission, structure, and accomplishments. State associations will be highlighted in our weekly state profiles.
Let’s all get to know one another so we can work together more closely and effectively.
