Common Questions
Membership FAQ
How are winery membership dues calculated?
Dues are based on your winery’s annual gallon sales. Wineries producing under 10,000 gallons pay a flat $500/year. Between 10,000 and 70,000 gallons, it’s 5¢ per gallon. Larger producers pay tiered flat rates up to a maximum cap of $47,500.
What counts as 'gallons sold' for dues purposes?
Gallons sold includes all wine removed from your bonded premises for consumption or sale during the calendar year. This is based on your TTB reports and includes all channels: tasting room, wholesale, direct-to-consumer, and export.
Can multiple wineries under one owner join together?
Yes. If you own multiple bonded wineries, you can combine them under a single membership. Dues are calculated on the total combined gallonage across all your facilities.
What does the $11,000 savings figure refer to?
This refers to the annual federal excise tax savings from the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act, which WineAmerica successfully advocated to make permanent. A winery producing 10,000 gallons saves approximately $11,000/year through the reduced tax rate of $1.00/gallon on the first 30,000 gallons (vs. the standard $1.07–$3.40/gallon).
Do I get to meet my congressional representatives?
Absolutely. WineAmerica organizes two annual conferences in Washington D.C. where members have scheduled meetings with their Senators and House Representatives. We also arrange special briefings and receptions on Capitol Hill.
I'm a small winery. Is membership still worth it?
Small wineries benefit the most. At just $500/year, you get the same advocacy, tax savings ($11,000+), and conference access as the largest producers. That’s a 22x return on your membership investment from the tax credit alone.
