DC Updates

Congress Flees DC!

The long annual August recess was scheduled to begin after this week, but instead House Speaker Mike Johnson adjourned the session early so the Republican-led House of Representatives could avoid a vote related to the possible release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. The issue has eclipsed virtually everything else and seems disinclined to go away, so Congress did instead.

What this also means is that, due to the cut in legislative working days, it is increasingly likely there may be a government shutdown after September 30 when they run out of money.

Ah, our government in action (inaction).

Michael Kaiser’s 6-Month Retrospective

At the beginning of this year, Michael Kaiser wrote a prospective piece about what he expected Washington would be like under a second Trump administration. Michael is Executive Vice President and Director of Government Affairs for WineAmerica, and intricately involved in the ways of Washington.

That piece was published in Wine Industry Advisor, and now he offers a review of his preview in the same source, which we thank for their support of WineAmerica. Rather than spoiling the surprise, I refer you to this LINK for the before and after.
