DC Updates

Once again there is not much happening in DC from a legislative standpoint since the House is in recess (again!) and the Senate is at an impasse about whether to scrap the filibuster so Republicans can pass the SAVE Act, a presidential priority. A reminder: Last year Congress was in session for a total of 79 days (and we taxpayers actually pay them).

Meanwhile, the mini-shutdown (of the Department of Homeland Security) is again having maximum effects on air travelers in particular, but especially on TSA workers who are not getting paid. These are relatively low-wage jobs, and many of the screeners (and their families) survive paycheck to paycheck. Shame.

A government shutdown last September also scrapped a planned Congressional Wine Reception to kick off the Come Over October celebration, which we had hosted the year before. Today’s Washington is truly a dysfunctional place.
