DC Updates
This year, 2026, Congress may set a new, all-time record for ineffectiveness, even surpassing last year when they met on only 79 days all year.
A dysfunctional House, and a Senate which often disagrees with policies the House might pass, have led to legislative gridlock. On top of that, as an election year, besides taking off all of August as usual, the legislators will be gone in October to campaign to keep their jobs. Then they’ll return for a short, year-end lame duck session to pass a temporary emergency budget bill because they failed to take it up in September!
None of this would be tolerated in the private sector, and we the voters shouldn’t allow it in government either. After all, supposedly it’s government of, by, and for the people!
